The Word ‘보늬(Bonnie)’ means the soft pulp of nuts in Korean, expanding its meaning into truthfulness. I found this interesting, as in chinese ‘본의(本意 Bon-ui)’ and in English ‘Bony’ also has similar meanings and sounds.
25 idea sketches for table, 2023
I sketched 25 different desk concepts, each inspired and followed different motifs. Considering plausiblity of the idea, I chose "human table" design which depicted a person supporting the tabletop with its arms and legs. Using these initial sketches, I could create a 1:4 scale model. After 3-4 iterations, I refined the design into a feasible desk shape.

The overall concept was to create mirror images of each other between the left and right sides of the desk, enhancing contrast with curvy, organic shapes and straight, angular forms. Additionally, I focused on the negative space of the desk, ensuring the desk's key features were visible from all four directions. After this, I created a full-scale drawing to calculate the amount of wood required.

Using a table saw, I cut precise shapes and refined each piece to be joined, using mortise and tenon joints. After confirming that all parts fit together seamlessly, I shaped the table and glued each piece together with wood glue.
Finally, I sanded the surface to achieve a smooth finish and applied a true finish to complete the project. As a result, it became a weird design with desk and chair shape blended together, giving both classic and unconventional feelings.
